Lutes Battle in Crosstown Matchup Against Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. — Pacific Lutheran women's soccer fell 2-0 to crosstown rival Puget Sound on Wednesday night at East Field, as the Lutes looked to overcome an early deficit in Northwest Conference action.

Puget Sound opened the scoring in the fourth minute before adding a second goal late in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

Pacific Lutheran (9-3-3, 7-2-2 NWC) continued to compete defensively in the second half, keeping the Loggers from adding to the scoreboard over the final 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Mia Speir anchored the Lutes with seven saves in a full 90-minute effort.

The Lutes looked to generate momentum after halftime, recording all three of their shots in the second period. Liv Olson led Pacific Lutheran with two attempts, while Abby Manolovitz added another shot.

Pacific Lutheran finished with three shots and four corner kicks. The Lutes also limited Puget Sound's scoring opportunities after the break, showing defensive power in the second half.

The result moves the Lutes' attention to their next Northwest Conference match up as they continue the regular season.

Pacific Lutheran returns to East Field on Sunday, Oct. 25, to host Willamette. Kick off is set for 2:45 p.m.
