FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Sydney Reisner and
Lilli Williams combined for 30 points but it wasn't enough on Saturday afternoon inside the Stroller Center, coming up short 69-52 against Northwest Conference rival Pacific University.
The host Boxers (9-14, 4-10 NWC) led wire-to-wire, dropping the first four points of the game and 10 of the first 13. A Williams layup made it a one possession game with 3:35 left in the first but Pacific added some separation late in the opening quarter, hitting a three for an 18-11 lead after 10 minutes of action. The Boxers controlled the second quarter, taking a 37-26 lead into the halftime intermission and held at least an eight-point gap the entire second half.
Sydney Reisner led all scorers with 18 points with nine of those points coming at the free throw line. Williams added 12 points and four steals while
Kiley McMahon added eight points off the bench.
Ghadir Ramadan led the team on the glass with nine rebounds.
PLU won the turnover battle, forcing 23 Pacific turnovers with five different Lutes collecting a steal. The Lutes cashed in on those opportunities, holding a 16-14 edge in points off turnovers and enjoyed an 11-2 edge in fast break buckets. Pacific meanwhile had its way on the boards, holding a 56-34 rebounding advantage.
The Lutes (2-21, 1-13 NWC) close out the season next weekend against the Whits. PLU hosts Whitworth University on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. inside Olson Gymnasium and welcome Whitman College to Olson on Saturday at 3 p.m. for senior day.
