TACOMA, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team fell to the Linfield University Wildcats 13-2 in a non-conference match upd on Saturday afternoon.
Today's match up between the Lutes and Wildcats was delayed by 30 minutes due to some inclement weather on the road. This being the third meeting all-time between the programs with something to prove coming in with overall records of 1-3 each.
"We are committed to the process and are seeing growth game to game, " Head Coach
Melanie Rizzotti commented. "Our defense made some major adjustments since last weekend and it was great to see them play as a unit. Kassie was terrific in the 4th and Kathleen was on fire on offense."
Both teams exuded a strong defensive energy in the opening quarter as the first goal wasn't scored until nine seconds left as Linfield found the net.
Kassie Diller was a stone wall making three saves on free position shots to turn away the potent Wildcat attack.
Linfield would go on a 3-0 run, but the Lutes would get on the board
Kathleen Swankowski starting the offensive party scoring on a man-down fast break getting PLU on the board 3-1. Wildcats would take the half 7-1.
PLU began the second half on a positive note as Swankowski wasn't finished on the offensive end cutting down the alley and capitalizing on quick-stick finish off a feed from
Issabella Marchio to cut the lead to 7-2.
The Wildcats would continue to dial up the pressure in the midfield for the remainder of the game and keep possession on the Lutes defensive side scoring six straight goals to seal a 13-2 win.
Gracie Cecka and
Taylee Alldredge wreaked havoc in the midfield to keep PLU in the contest as they both finished the game with four caused turnovers. Cecka led the Lutes field players with five ground balls as well.
Paige Hackman showed out in the circle winning three draw controls in the game.
Diller finished the contest with seven ground balls and 13 save between the pipes.
PLU will return to action tomorrow, March 15th as they travel to take on the Lewis & Clark College River Otters with opening draw set for 1 PM.
