TACOMA, Wash. — Abi Caprye and
Kyleigh Archer set the tone with wins in the field events, powering the Pacific Lutheran University women's track & field squad to a runner-up finish on Saturday at the Brad Moore Invitational.
"it was great to have good weather today and that was reflected in the results today. We had some strong performances and people are continuing to improve," said Head Coach
Trey Henderson.
"We're close to the halfway point of the season and we need to keep working hard but overall a really good day and the team represented well for the inaugural Brad Moore Invite!"
In the field events,
Abi Caprye won the high jump, clearing five feet, one ¾ inches while
Sydney Sparks was runner-up after clearing 4' 11 ¾".
Madison Downey and
Lilly Achterling rounded out the top four, both clearing 4' 9 ¾".
Kyleigh Archer won the triple jump for the second straight meet, leaping 36 feet, 0 ¾ inches to secure the win. Downey was second with a jump of 34' 5 ¾" with
Kira Marshall placing fourth with a mark of 32' 6 ¼". Marshall placed third overall and first among D3 competitors in the long jump, leaping 16' 3 ¾" with
Kiana Gutierrez fourth with a jump of 16' 3". Downey was fifth with a mark of 15' 9 ¾" followed by Archer in sixth (15' 5 ½").
Taylor Kenaston was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 80' 8" while
Tajanai Huff placed eighth in the discus with a mark of 102' 6". Samaiya White was sixth in the shot put with a mark of 34' 10 ¼".
Caprye soared over 10' 6" to place second overall in the pole vault with Downey and
Ki Neir placing third and fourth respectively, both clearing the same height as Caprye.
On the track,
Soukhanya Waters was runner-up in the 400-meter dash, making one trip around the track in 1:04.27 with
Damaris Ibrahim third in 1:04.70. Tina Bullen rounded out the Lutes in the 400, finishing fifth in 1:07.41.
Maddie Mitchell placed third in the 1,500-meters, making three and a half trips around the track in 5:02.66 while
Jessalyn Robles was sixth (5:14.88) and
Piper Gannon eighth (5:17.99).
Robles later placed third in the 800-meter run, finishing the two-lap race in 2:29.42 with Mitchell seventh in 2:34.38.
Rachel Rosario placed fourth in the 5,000-meters, clocking a time of 21:53.29.
Addisen Hering was the top D3 finisher in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing third overall in 15.50 with Achterling (16.14), Caprye (16.24), and
Heather Johnson (16.26) placing fourth through sixth.
Johnson later placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.52 with Hering (1:07.65) and Achterling (1:13.68) finishing third and fourth.
Marshall was eighth in the 100-meter dash and second among D3 sprinters, finishing in 12.90 while
D'Yhana Clemons was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 26.95.
The Lutes placed second in the 4x100-meter relay in 49.21 and was second in the 4x400-meter relay to close out the meet, logging a time of 4:13.54.
The meet began on Friday afternoon with
Sandra Valmonte placing sixth overall in the hammer throw with a heave of 138' 5" while White was seventh with a mark of 134' 4".
PLU tallied 208 points in the team standings, finishing just 11 points shy of Division II Western Washington University. The Lutes dominated crosstown rival University of Puget Sound, outscoring the Loggers by 162 points while also finishing ahead of Division II Saint Martin's University and Northwest Conference rival Whitman College in the team standings.
Saturday was the Lutes' second and final home meet of 2026 as the program recognized seniors

Jessalyn Robles,
Sydney Sparks, and
Sandra Valmonte at the conclusion of the meet.
The Lutes return to action next Friday for day one of the Peyton Shotwell Invitational hosted by crosstown rival Puget Sound.
