TACOMA, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran University women's track and field team showed in its outdoor season opener finishing fourth at the Ed Boitano Invite on Saturday.
The Ed Boitano Invite was hosted by the University of Puget Sound Loggers with 14 other teams competing from across NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and junior college ranks. The Lutes finished with 87.50 team points, which was good for fourth overall, the second-highest Division III school behind Whitworth University.
Sandra Valmonte and
Samayia White got things rolling for PLU on Friday afternoon finishing fourth and seventh respectively in hammer throw with tosses of 145 feet, one inch and 135' 9".
Soukhanya Waters showed out in the 100-meter dash finishing in fifth with a time of 12.55 seconds.
Heather Johnson also kept the energy up in the 400m hurdles placing 2nd with a time of 1:07.28.
The Lute throws squad continued their momentum from day one with
Tajanai Huff, White, and
Tulip Carter all placing in shot put in 1st (38'6.25"), 4th (34'3"), and 7th (28'8.5") respectively. Pole vault crew continued the momentum for PLU as
Ki Neir finished 2nd with a leap of 10'9",
Madison Downey placed 4th with a mark of 10'9", Abigail Caprye finished 6th with a 9' 9.25" and Kria Marshall placed 8th with a leap of 8' 9.5".
PLU's jumpers would round out the placers for the Lutes as Lily Achertling placed 5th in the high jump with a 4'9.75".
Kyleigh Archer displayed a strong outing finishing 5th in long jump (16'5") and 2nd in triple jump (35' 1.75"). Downey and Marshall would also place in the triple jump with jumps of 34' 9.75" (3rd place) and 32'1.5" (8th place).
Pacific Lutheran returns to action on Friday, March 13th for the PLU Open.
