Lutes Fall to NWC-Leading Bruins on Senior Day

TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team closed out its home slate on Saturday, honoring its four seniors pregame before falling 23-3 to Northwest Conference leading George Fox University at East Field.

The Lutes (3-11, 1-5 NWC) recognized seniors Issabella Marchio, Mara Clay, Kathleen Swankowski, and Lia Zaboski in a pregame ceremony. The senior quartet have played a pivotal role over the past four years, helping the squad transition from a club team to a varsity program last spring.

"Our seniors have been instrumental in the transition from a club to a varsity program. Lute lacrosse wouldn't be what it is without their dedication, passion, and love for the team and one another," said Head Coach Melanie Rizzotti.

"They're leaving an outstanding legacy of hard work, resilience, balance, and friendship."

The visiting Bruins (11-3, 5-0 NWC) took an early lead, scoring the game's first goal in the opening minute of play and scoring eight goals in the first quarter.

Katrina Moran got the Lutes on the board with 11:02 left in the third quarter, finding the back of the net off an assist from Peyton Terhar. Emily Mejia tallied her second goal of the weekend six minutes later, scoring unassisted while Paige Hackman struck with 1:17 left in the third quarter.

Hackman led the Lutes with three draw controls while Gracie Cecka and Taylee Alldredge both had a pair of ground balls.

Kassie Diller made 12 saves on the day, logging all 60 minutes between the posts.

The Lutes hit the road next weekend to close out the regular season, facing in-state rival Whitman College on Saturday and Whitworth University on Sunday.
