Marchio Nets Goal #13 in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Issabella Marchio scored her 13th goal of the season on Saturday afternoon but it wasn't enough to earn a road upset of Northwest Conference contender Whitman College, falling 21-1 at James Hayner Field.

"Today was a hard fought game," said Head Coach Melanie Rizzotti.

"We're still learning and growing and adapting. We won both possessions for the start of the second and fourth quarters which is something we have been working towards all season. We're looking forward to having one more opportunity together as a team tomorrow when we close the season in Spokane."

Marchio scored unassisted 66 seconds into the third quarter, notching her 13th of the season and 21st of her career. The senior currently sits second on the team in scoring this season and ranks second as well in points with 16.

The host Blues (10-6, 6-1 NWC) got a pair of early goals from Serafin Miller and surged to an 8-0 lead after one quarter of play. Whitman led 14-0 at the half before Marchio's goal broke up the Blues' scoring run.

Paige Hackman did a little bit of everything for the Lutes (3-12, 1-6 NWC) on Saturday, netting five draw controls, four caused turnovers, and three ground balls. Already the school single season record holder in ground balls and caused turnovers, Hackman added a third category after eclipsing 51 draw controls on the year. Her 54 this season pushes past teammate Taylee Alldredge's previous mark of 51 set during the program's inaugural season in 2025.

Kassie Diller finished with eight saves, logging all 60 minutes between the pipes, and currently sits one save away from 300 in her Lute career.

The Lutes close out the 2026 season tomorrow in Spokane, squaring off against Whitworth University at 1 p.m.
