TACOMA, Wash. — Lute student-athletes continued a tradition of excellence and achievement in the classroom with the Pacific Lutheran University Athletic Department wrapping up the 2026 spring semester with a cumulative 3.47 grade point average.
"Academics are the cornerstone of the student-athlete experience at Pacific Lutheran University. We talk a lot about how excellence is a core value of ours, and that it should be pursued both on the field and in their academic endeavors," said Athletic Director
Mike Snyder.
"I'm thrilled to see the level of academic excellence shown yet again this year."
PLU's 18 varsity sports combined for a 3.47 cumulative GPA and a 3.39 GPA during the most recent spring semester. A total of 330 student-athletes achieved a 3.0 or better, accounting for 76 percent of PLU's student-athlete population. The Lutes additionally boasted 18 4.0 students.
Leading the way was the PLU women's golf team boasting a 3.64 cumulative GPA. The nine-time Northwest Conference Champion Lute women's soccer team was second with a 3.62 GPA followed by volleyball and men's cross country with identical 3.59 GPAs. All told, 11 of the University's 18 varsity programs maintained a GPA above a 3.5 with women's basketball having every member of the team achieve above a 3.0. Volleyball earned the top GPA during the 2026 spring semester, finishing with a 3.68 semester GPA with women's soccer close behind with a 3.60.
In addition to success in the classroom, the Lutes had plenty to celebrate this academic year. PLU women's soccer earned a share of its ninth consecutive NWC title, volleyball won its second NWC Tournament Title in three years, while softball secured its first regular season championship since 2003. Volleyball and softball both competed at the NCAA Division III Championships while
Madison Downey represented the Lutes at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships last month.
