TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team battled George Fox University to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon at East Field. The Lutes finished their opening conference weekend unbeaten, earning a 2-0 victory over Pacific University on Saturday before Sunday's scoreless draw with George Fox.
The Lutes created several chances throughout the match, finishing with a 12-6 advantage in shots. George Fox managed just one shot on goal, with Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper,
Mia Speir, making the lone save she needed to preserve the shutout.
Pacific Lutheran took control after the break, recording all seven of its second-half shots while limiting George Fox to just one attempt. The Lutes also dominated the corner-kick battle in the second-half, earning all nine of their corners after halftime and finishing the match with a 9-4 advantage.
Liv Olson led the Lutes with three shots, while
Kelan Betts added two shots, and
Elayna Blodgett,
Sophie Avery, and
Kami Novotny each put an attempt on frame.
Despite the Lutes' second-half pressure, neither team could find the breakthrough as both defenses held firm for the full 90 minutes.
"Credit to George Fox, they battled hard. We are a little disappointed in the outcome, but we gotta learn from it," said Head Coach
Seth Spidahl.
The Lutes are back in action on Wednesday as they battle the cross-town rivals, The Loggers of The University of Puget Sound. Catch them at the UPS field at 2:45 p.m. following the men's game at noon.
