HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team ran roughshod over a pair of Northwest Conference rivals to begin league play and on Monday setter Ayre Takamoto was honored for her part in the wins, securing NWC Offensive Player of the Week.

The junior from Honolulu, Hawaii was dialed in during the Lutes' 3-0 sweeps of both George Fox University and Pacific University, finishing with 60 assists, 17 digs, and eight aces over the two matches.

Takamoto racked up 31 assists in PLU's Friday night win over George Fox while collecting a double-double of 29 assists and 12 digs in Saturday's sweep of Pacific. Takamoto had 60 of PLU's 71 assists over the weekend while also collecting five kills and two blocks. A Second Team All-Conference selection last fall, Takamoto leads the NWC in both aces and assists.

Takamoto is the fourth Lute to secure Player of the Week honors this fall. Alexis Eggert was NWC Offensive Player of the Week last Monday while the Lutes swept the honor on Sept. 8 with Julissa Pernsteiner winning NWC Offensive Player of the Week and Macy Matsushima seizing NWC Defensive Player of the Week. 

The Lutes (9-2, 2-0 NWC) host crosstown rival University of Puget Sound on Tuesday. First serve inside Olson Gymnasium is slated for 7 p.m.
