SEATTLE - Shelly Kilcup poured in 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting
from the field, but her production wasn't enough as Pacific
Lutheran dropped a 76-57 non-conference women's basketball decision
to Seattle Pacific on Tuesday night at Brougham Pavilion.
Kilcup, a frosh guard out of Fife High School, led the Lutes in
scoring for the second straight game. Just three days after scoring
19 points in a loss to Concordia, Kilcup again came off the bench
to lead the PLU offense. She was 3-for-4 from long range and also
made all four of her free throws. For good meadure, Kilcup led the
Lutes with seven rebounds.
On this night, however, a talented NCAA Division II Seattle
Pacific team was too much for the Lutes, even though the visitors
started out well. Kilcup's jumper gave the Lutes an 8-6 lead with
14:24 left in the opening half, but the Falcons went on a 9-0 run
and were never headed after that. Pacific Lutheran was able to cut
its deficit to two points, but with just under two minutes
remaining in the first half the Falcons had rebuilt their advantage
to 32-17 on Jordan Harazin's three-point basket.
Seattle Pacific (3-0) continued to pull away in the second half
and took its biggest lead at 49-22 on Caitlyn Rohrbach's steal and
layup with 13:44 remaining. The Lutes never got their deficit below
16 points for the rest of the contest.
Jordan Westering and Sarah Backstrom joined Kilcup in double
figures, Westering finishing with 12 points and Backstrom adding
10. Backstrom also tallied five assists as PLU finished with 16
assists on 19 field goals.
Daesha Henderson scored 20 points and Harazin added 13 off the
bench for the Falcons, who were led in rebounding by Megan
Hoisington with nine.
Pacific Lutheran (1-2) returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.
1, when it faces Division I Seattle University at Connolly
Center.
