SALEM, Ore. - Beth Tatlock scored her first two goals of the
season and added an assist as the Willamette Bearcats defeated
visiting Pacific Lutheran, 3-1, in a Northwest Conference women's
soccer match played on Friday.
Willamette is now 9-8-2 overall and 8-6-1 in the Northwest
Conference. The Lutes drop to 5-13-1 overall and 4-10-1 in the
NWC.
Tatlock, a senior, had a game to remember in her last contest
at Sparks Field. Her first goal came 6:25 into the first half on a
shot from 24 yards out with the assist going to Andrea Rowan.
Tatlock found the back of the net again just 14 minutes later
on a shot from 20 yards out. Her second goal was unassisted and
gave Willamette a 2-0 lead. Willamette went ahead 3-0 when
Kimber Mattox scored off an assist from Tatlock at 68:37.
The Lutes scored their only goal of the game at 75:47 on
Mimi Granlund's header with the assist going to Courtney
Walker. The goal was the second of the season for Granlund and the
assist the fifth for Walker.
Willamette took 14 shots in the game, compared to Pacific
Lutheran's three. The Bearcat also enjoyed a 3-0 advantage in
corner kicks.
Pacific Lutheran finishes its 2009 season on Saturday when it
plays the George Fox Bruins at 11 a.m. in Newberg, Ore. The winner
of the match will finish in seventh place, the loser in eighth
place, in the conference standings. If the match ends in a tie, PLU
would finish in seventh place. PLU defeated George Fox, 1-0, in the
first meeting between the teams on Oct. 10 in Parkland.
