ANTHEM, Ariz. - Pacific Lutheran concluded a sweep of four
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents
on Sunday at the Arizona Desert Classic, beating La Verne, 13-4.
With the victory, the Lutes improve to 7-0 this season, marking
the best start in the program's history.
Scott Wall picked up his second pitching victory against no
defeats and Dan Johansen hit a two-run homer to highlight the PLU
offense.
PLU scored twice in the first, five times in the third and
twice more in both the fourth and fifth innings to open up an 11-3
lead. The Lutes finished with 11 hits, including two each by
Johansen, Josh Takayoshi, Ryan Aratani and Brock Gates.
The Lutes scored in double digits in all four victories in
Arizona and have also accomplished that task five times in their
seven victories.
PLU is ranked No. 25 in the Collegiate Baseball
Division III Top 25 preseason poll.
