FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran improved its dual match
record to 5-1 on Saturday by sweeping two Northwest Conference
men's tennis matches from the host Pacific Boxers at Holce Tennis
Courts.
The Lutes won the opener by a 6-3 score and then came back later
for a 5-4 win.
The much-improved Boxers pushed the Lutes in both matches before
finally succumbing to the Lutes, one of the traditional Northwest
Conference powerhouses.
Joel Trudel and Justin Peterson improved their No. 1 doubles
record to 6-0 with a pair of 8-2 victories over Michael Okada and
Spencer Hing. Trudel is now 4-0 at No. 1 singles after twice
beating Okada, 6-4, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2.
Michael Manser and Taylor Dickey won both of their singles
matches for the Lutes. Manser, playing No. 3, defeated Eric Furuya
6-1, 6-4, and Micah Leo, 6-3, 6-3. Dickey, at No. 5, got the
measure of Nhat Nguyen and Kolin Wong, both by 6-2, 6-2 scores.
In the opening match, Manser and Scott Sheldon beat Scott
Kawamura and Patrick Kinghorn, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. In the second
match, Dickey and Brent Smoots picked up a team point with an 8-6
win over Kinghorn and Nguyen at No. 3 doubles.
The Lutes return to conference action next weekend with their
second straight road trip to Oregon. PLU will take on Willamette on
Friday and George Fox on Saturday.
