Visiting Pacific University showed why it occupies second place in the Northwest Conference men's tennis standings on Friday afternoon, defeating Pacific Lutheran, 8-1, at the PLU tennis courts.
The Boxers, ranked No. 11 in the West Region of Division III tennis, improved to 12-5 overall and to 10-1 in the conference, while the Lutes are now 6-10 overall and 4-7 in the NWC.
PLU's only victory came at No. 6 singles where Kyle McKee defeated Evan Liu in a pro set, 8-4. All of the other singles matches went to the Boxers in straight sets, that after Pacific had swept through doubles play. The closest doubles match came at No. 1 where Dan Cotton and Luke Olson dropped an 8-5 decision to Troy Zuroske and Giancarlo Battaglia.
Pacific Lutheran closes its 2012 season on Saturday when it hosts the Willamette Bearcats in a match scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. at the PLU courts.
