PARKLAND – Northwest outscored Pacific Lutheran by 21 points in the second half to pull away to a 74-52 nonconference women's basketball victory over the Lutes Friday night at Names Family Court.
Pacific Lutheran falls to 3-4 overall while Northwest improves to 7-3 this season. The Lutes return to action Saturday, when they host Evergreen at 6 p.m.
Northwest shot 70 percent from three-point range (7-of-10) and 43.5 percent overall (27-of-62) while limiting the Lutes to 33.3 percent shooting (16-of-48) and 14 fewer shots in the game. The Eagles also staked a 47-32 rebounding advantage.
Northwest stormed out to a 15-point lead midway through the first half after a Charity Degman layup made it 27-12. The Lutes rallied to score 18 of the final 22 points of the period, however, pulling within one after Jori Hall's layup made it 31-30 going into the break.
Another layup by Hall put PLU on top by one to open the second half, giving the Lutes their first lead since the early minutes of play and their final lead of the night. Brianna Fiso responded with a layup to give Northwest the one-point lead as part of an 18-6 Eagle run that pushed the visitors' lead into double-figures for good.
Hall led PLU with 14 points and five rebounds, while Megan Abdo tallied nine points to go with four rebounds and four steals and Jordan Bengen scored eight points for the Lutes. Jordan Asher scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Kristen Frey scored 13 and Hannah Carlson added 11 for the Eagles.
