PLU softball defeated by No. 5 East Texas Baptist in twinbill

MARSHALL, Tex. – Pacific Lutheran softball fell to No. 5 East Texas Baptist on Monday, dropping the doubleheader by scores of 5-0 and 4-0. With the losses, PLU's record falls to 5-13 this season, while ETBU advanced to 20-5.

In game one, the Lutes were shut out, collecting only two hits against ETBU starter Kelly Jo McLendon. A four-hit, four-run first inning for the Tigers gave them the early advantage, adding another insurance run in the third on a solo home run by Lacey Lindsey. Lutes starter Leah Butters pitched a complete game, allowing ETBU's five runs on six hits with three walks and one strikeout. Lindsey Matsunaga and Tori Hamura accounted for the only Lute hits of the outing.

Despite the shutout in game two, the Lutes minimized the damage by stranding 10 ETBU runners. Kelsey Robinson pitched a complete game, surrendering four earned runs on 10 hits and four walks. She struck out two. Tigers' starting pitcher Shelby Parker earned the win with her three-hit complete game, which included nine strikeouts with no walks. Robinson, Spencer Sherwin and Thalen Masada collected the three hits for PLU.

The Lutes will continue play in Texas on Wednesday. They will be hosted by Trinity University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. PST.
