PARKLAND – Pacific Lutheran limited Linfield to 13 first-half points and never looked back as the Lutes picked up a 61-39 Northwest Conference men's basketball victory Friday night at Names Family Court.
The win improved Pacific Lutheran's record to 4-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while Linfield fell to 2-12 overall and 0-5 in the NWC. The Lutes return to action Saturday, hosting Willamette at 6 p.m.
Dylan Foreman scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and made three of his four three-point attempts to go with five rebounds and a pair of assists. Bryce Miller came off the bench to score 11 points and grab five rebounds as PLU shot a season-best 51.2 percent from the field (22-of-43). The Lutes' .583 shooting mark from three-point range (7-of-12) was also a season-high, while Linfield's .277 overall shooting percentage was the lowest by a PLU opponent this season. Trevor Howard led Linfield with 13 points.
Linfield scored the first basket of the game, but Foreman followed with seven straight points for the Lutes and PLU led the rest of the way. The Lutes led 19-13 with 5:11 to play in the opening period, and PLU held Linfield without a point for nearly 10 minutes before a Howard three-pointer ended the Wildcat drought with 16:27 on the clock in the second half.
PLU scored 15 consecutive points during that stretch, taking a 30-13 lead into halftime and adding four more points after the break before Howard's three. The Lutes responded by scoring eight straight points, taking advantage of a pair of three-pointers by Markus Mitchell Glenn and Zacharias Wallin to go up 26 points at 42-16 with 14:05 to play. The Lutes led by as many as 28 points in the second half before closing out the 22-point win.
