Linfield rallies in second half to pull away from Lutes 68-57

PARKLAND – Pacific Lutheran built a three-point halftime lead, but Linfield shot 56.5 percent in the second period to defeat the Lutes 68-57 in Northwest Conference women's basketball action Friday evening at Names Family Court.

Pacific Lutheran falls to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play, while Linfield improves to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the NWC. The Lutes host Willamette Saturday, with tipoff set for 4 p.m.

Megan Abdo led the Lutes with 11 points, while Lacey Nicholson scored 10 and added five rebounds and Madison Green-Hayward made a trio of three-pointers to tally nine points. Hannah Depew led all scorers with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting for Linfield and added six rebounds and four steals. Taylor Solomon scored 10 for the Wildcats.

Pacific Lutheran shot 48.0 percent in the opening period (12-of-25) and rallied back from an eight-point deficit in the final six minutes of the half. Linfield led 25-17 with 5:37 on the clock before a layup by Jordan Bengen sparked a 15-4 PLU run to end the half, with the Lutes scoring the final nine points of the period to take a 32-29 advantage into the break.

Linfield scored the first basket of the second half, as Dani Krier tied it with a three-pointer as part of an eight-point Linfield run to open the period. The Lutes rallied back to tie it at 44-44 and again at 46-46 midway through the period, but another eight-point Linfield streak gave the Wildcats the lead for good. The Wildcats' final eight points of the game came at the free throw line, where they finished 18-of-26 compared to 5-of-7 for PLU.

Linfield finished the night with a 38-27 rebounding advantage and attempted 19 more free throws than PLU. The Wildcats bounced back from a 34.5 percent first-half shooting performance (10-of-29) to shoot 56.5 percent in the second half (13-of-23), while PLU cooled from its first-half 48 percent performance to shoot 37.9 percent in the second period (11-of-29). The game featured seven tie scores and a pair of lead changes.
