Lutes fall to Lewis & Clark 8-1

PORTLAND – The Pacific Lutheran men's tennis team closed out a Northwest Conference road split Sunday, falling to Lewis & Clark 8-1 to wrap up the weekend trip to Oregon with one win and one loss.

Pacific Lutheran falls to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Lewis & Clark improves to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the NWC. The Lutes return home next weekend and will host George Fox on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Pacific on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Sprinker Recreation Center.

Jeremy Marsh picked up the lone win of the day for PLU out of the sixth singles slot, battling back from a 6-1 opening-set defeat against Carter Gee Taylor to win the second set 6-1 before claiming a 10-2 tiebreaker win. Michael Brewer defeated Sam Stadter 6-0, 6-2 at the top of the ladder, while Kevin Ross took down Sam Angel 6-3, 6-3 at number two.

Daniel Hahm picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over James Okubo in the three slot, while Gordon Barrows defeated Noel Oteng-Mensah 6-3, 6-3 at number four. The number five match went to Brenden Barrows, as he defeated Alberto Leal 6-1, 6-3.

Lewis & Clark won all three doubles matches as well. Morgan Joyce and Gordon Barrows teamed to defeat Okubo and Stadter 8-1 in the first matchup. Brewer and Ross defeated Angel and Oteng-Mensah 8-3 in the second, and Hahm and Harrison Collins teamed to knock off Marsh and Leal 8-4 in the final doubles contest.
