THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Pacific Lutheran men's tennis team opened its 2015 spring break trip Saturday afternoon against 24th-ranked California Lutheran, as the Lutes fell 9-0 to the Kingsmen at Poulson Tennis Center.
Pacific Lutheran falls to 2-7 overall, while California Lutheran improves to 7-8. The Lutes are set to play two matches on Sunday in Pasadena, taking on Caltech at 10 a.m. before finishing the day against Arizona Christian at 3 p.m.
Sam Stadter and James Okubo opened the doubles round in the first slot for the Lutes, falling 8-4 to Moises Cardenas and Jesse Knight. Fergus Scott and Jesper Lunding-Johansson defeated Sam Angel and Alberto Leal 8-3 in the second match, while Andrew Slater and Gio Valdez took down Noel Oteng-Mensah and Jeremy Marsh 8-1 to wrap up doubles competition.
Cardenas defeated Stadter 6-2, 6-2 at the top of the singles ladder. Scott defeated Angel 6-4, 6-0 in the second match, while Valdez knocked off Okubo 6-1, 6-1 in the third match. Oteng-Mensah fell to Knight 6-4, 6-1 in the fourth match, while Slater defeated Marsh 6-1, 6-3 in the fifth match and Lucas Tilly closed out the competition with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Leal.
