Whitman ends Lutes' win streak with 9-0 defeat

WALLA WALLA – Pacific Lutheran's three-match win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon, as the 15th-ranked Whitman Missionaries defeated PLU 9-0 in Northwest Conference men's tennis action.

Pacific Lutheran fell to 5-12 overall and 5-6 in conference play, while Whitman improved to 18-5 overall and 12-0 in the NWC. The Lutes wrap up the 2015 season Sunday, when they will take on Whitworth in Spokane.

Robert Carter and Jake Hoeger opened doubles competition with an 8-2 win over Sam Stadter and Sam Angel. James Rivers and Gary Ho defeated Jeremy Marsh and Noel Oteng-Mensah 8-2 in the second match, and Parker Silverman and Jacob Christensen closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over James Okubo and Chris Erkkila.

Whitman closed out the win by taking all six singles matches. Carter defeated Stadter 6-2, 6-2 at the top of the ladder, and Ho took down Angel 6-2, 6-3. Adam Rapoport defeated Oteng-Mensah 6-0, 6-3 in the third match, while Alex Noyes defeated Marsh 6-4, 6-0 in the fourth match. Trevor Fennessy picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Erkkila, and Luke Targett ended the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win over John Woelfel.
