SPOKANE – The Pacific Lutheran men's tennis team saw its 2015 season come to an end Sunday, as the Lutes fell 9-0 to Whitworth at Scotford Tennis Center.
PLU concludes the season with a 5-13 overall record and a 5-7 Northwest Conference mark. Whitworth goes to 6-11 overall and 6-6 in the NWC.
Sam Stadter gave the Lutes their best chance at a match win during singles competition on Sunday. Playing the No. 1 match in the ladder, Stadter bounced back after losing the first set 6-4 to claim a 6-1 win in the second set against Drew Brigham. Brigham won the tiebreaker 10-5 to clinch the match victory.
Blake Miller defeated Sam Angel 6-2, 6-1 in the second singles match, while Drew Adams knocked off James Okubo 6-0, 6-0. Shane Sandlin defeated Noel Oteng-Mensah 6-2, 6-3, while Matt Goebel took down Jeremy Marsh 6-3, 6-3 and Caleb Hughes picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Chris Erkkila.
The doubles round also saw Whitworth claim every match. Brigham and Goebel picked up an 8-1 win over Stadter and Angel in the first match, while Adams and Sandlin defeated Oteng-Mensah and Marsh 8-1 in the second match. Miller and Hughes teamed to knock off Okubo and Erkkila 8-2 in the final doubles contest.
