Women's Soccer Earns Home Draw Against Wildcats

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team salvaged a 1-1 double overtime draw on Sunday afternoon at East Field against Northwest Conference rival Linfield College, extending its unbeaten streak to five games.

The homestanding Lutes (9-3-4, 8-2-2 NWC) struck first with Jamie Saito finding the back of the net in the 20th minute off a corner kick feed from Liz Griffith. The goal was Saito's third of the 2018 campaign while Griffith's helper was her team-leading seventh of the year.

The Wildcats (8-3-5, 5-2-5 NWC) equalized in the 42nd minute with a score from Jamie Mars. Neither team was able to generate any more goals the rest of regulation and across two 10-minute overtime sessions.

"I think today's performance was good. Linfield's a good team that hasn't lost in October and has had some good away performances at Willamette and Puget Sound," said Head Coach Seth Spidahl. "They're physical and we had a tough game yesterday so I'm proud of the players for not losing it. A tie keeps us three points out of first place which is one game and we still have to play Willamette and UPS which is all you want, to have a chance with two weeks left."

PLU enjoyed a 9-7 edge in shots, including one from Leah Magee as time expired in the second overtime.

Natalie Robinson tallied one save on the afternoon in goal for the Lutes, logging all 110 minutes between the posts while her counterpart, Madi Reimer, netted a pair of saves.

"Obviously we always love to win but I'm not unhappy with the players, they gave their best and today was a draw. Credit to Linfield they scored a good goal and we couldn't find that second goal."

The Lutes, 3-0-2 over the last five games, continue the homestand next Saturday, welcoming Lewis & Clark College to East Field with kickoff set for 12 p.m.
