TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team used a quick start to net a 4-0 Senior Day victory over Northwest Conference rival Pacific University on Sunday at East Field.
The Lutes (11-3-4, 10-2-2 NWC) started out strong, scoring all four goals in the opening half. Senior
Rachel Ross started the scoring spree with her finish in the 14th minute assisted by fellow senior
Liz Griffith off a corner kick. Griffith found her own goal off a penalty kick in the 26th minute. Madde Landreth and
Savannah Brown also put goals on the scoreboard in the first half. The Lutes maintained a majority of the possession and kept control of the game, the team outshot the Boxers 7-0.
Both teams remained scoreless throughout the second half. Many Lute players had time on the field including
Cassidy Crosswhite who came into the game for senior goalkeeper
Natalie Robinson and combined for the team's 10 clean sheet of the year.
"It was good to come out early and score a bunch of goals to kind of put away the game and it was awesome to see so many new players get some minutes!" said Senior
Rachel Ross, "Now we're focused on our next task which is Wednesday's game against UPS."
Sunday's pregame Senior Day ceremony honored the program's eight seniors:
Natalie Robinson,
Jamie Saito,
Bianca Lindberg,
Kate Peterson,
Rachel Ross,
Liz Griffith,
Amber Richards, and
Katie Coronado. The eight seniors have compiled a 59-10-12 record over the past four seasons, winning two NWC crowns and owning a 32-2-5 record at home at East Field.
"The game was definitely fun. Any opportunity to experience the game at home with your teammates is an invaluable moment. Knowing that we still have to play UPS at home on Wednesday is another opportunity we are looking forward to but the atmosphere that we experienced today was incredible. A huge shoutout to the coaches, families and teammates who made this day so special," said Robinson.
The Lutes continue their NWC campaign against University of Puget Sound at home this coming Wednesday at 4 p.m.
