Box Score RINCON, P.R. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team showed no signs of slowing down on Thursday, extending its win streak to six with an emphatic 63-46 victory over InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico in the Lutes opening game at the Porta Del Sol Shootout.
The Lutes (7-2) got off to a strong start, scoring eight of the opening 10 points. The host Tigers whittled the gap to a single possession at 10-8 but Pacific Lutheran kept the pressure on, enjoying a 17-12 lead after one quarter of play. The Lutes scored the opening eight points of the second quarter and took a 31-25 lead into the halftime break before seeing the advantage swell to 52-37 after three quarters of play.
"We were able to adjust to the heat and a different court as well," said Head Coach
Jennifer Childress. "We rotated players as the gym was 85 degrees. Our shooting was a bit off, the three-point line was four inches deeper. Our posts got a workout with the professional width of the key. Overall it was a great experience and InterAmerican was gracious hosts."
Madison Salisbury led the way for the Lutes, pouring on 27 points while grabbing nine rebounds.
Lauren Furu and
Katie Taylor each had seven points while
Emma Janousek dished out five assists.
The Tigers are members of Liga Atletica Interuniversitaria (LAI), an organization that oversees collegiate athletics in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Lutes return to the court tomorrow with a game against the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
