LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad was unable to keep pace with Lewis & Clark College on Sunday, falling 7-2 in a Northwest Conference dual match at the Sprinker Recreation Center.

"These two matches were a good measuring stick for us," said Head Coach Matt Look. "Both George Fox and Lewis & Clark are at the top of our conference. We saw how far we need to go, but more importantly, we got to see how far we've come."

Niko Convento prevailed at No. 1 singles for the Lutes (2-4, 0-2 NWC), downing the Pioneers' (5-2, 3-0 NWC) Raed Attia, 6-4, 6-2. Chan Thourk collected a, 6-3, 7-5, win at No. 4 singles, besting Keane Hindle. Justin DeMattos battled hard at No. 2 but was unable to pull out the win, falling short, 6-4, 6-1.

DeMattos and Thourk provided the stiffest challenge in doubles play, falling 8-4 to Lewis & Clark's Attia and Kei Inoue at the No. 2 position.

"It comes down to capitalizing on opportunities. The best teams in this conference make us earn our points. I believe we're heading in the right direction. I'm happy for Niko and Chan with quality wins, but in the end, Lewis & Clark was just too tough today."

The Lutes hit the road next weekend, trekking to Oregon to face Pacific University on Saturday at 10 a.m.
