Women's Soccer Rocks Whitman, 3-0

TACOMA, Wash. - Tasha Tennyson struck twice on feeds from Alyssa Carter as the Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team returned to the win column on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Northwest Conference rival Whitman College at East Field.

The Lutes (2-2-1, 1-1 NWC) came out roaring with a majority of the possession and had seven shots off in the first period compared to the Blues (0-5-1, 0-2 NWC) who had no shots on goal in the first half. Of PLU's seven shots, four came off the boot of Leah Magee. Tennyson scored the opening goal in the 36th minute off a Carter assist, leading PLU into the second half with a 1-0 lead.

The PLU women's defensive line has always been tough to beat but today the Lute's offensive players came out energized. The second half started well for the Lutes, and with one touch, Ellie Johnson found the net off of a Liz Griffith assist in the 54th minute. Tasha Tennyson, found her second goal of the game and season in the 66th minute off a beautiful right foot finish directly to the upper left corner off another feed from Carter.

The Lutes outshot the Blues 12-1 in the dominating shutout win.

"Overall I thought today's game was a much better performance than yesterday," said senior Rachel Ross. "We were starting to play more PLU type soccer by connecting passes, keeping possession, and attacking at the right moments. After yesterday's disappointing performance we wanted to respond with a good performance today, on and off the field!"

The Lutes are away next weekend heading to Oregon to face George Fox University on Saturday and Linfield College on Sunday.
