Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team won its first game of the Oregon road trip on Saturday afternoon, overpowering host George Fox University 2-0.
"The team overall played very well today against one of the best George Fox teams I have seen during my time here at PLU," said head coach Seth Spidahl. "They were undefeated going into this game and we had a very good performance against them. This is why we play a challenging pre-season schedule!"
The Lutes (3-2-2) scored early in the first half on a goal by senior Liz Griffith in the ninth minute. The Lutes would then go on to double their lead before halftime with junior Alyssa Carter's first goal of the season in the 36th minute. With a two goal advantage, the Lutes stayed focused in the second half to earn their first conference away win of the season.
"It's only game three, we still have a marathon in front of us with lots of challenges. Taking it one game at a time which is all we can really do...focus on the next most important thing."
Senior Natalie Robinson played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Lutes, tallying only one save behind the strong defensive performance displayed by PLU. Annalisa Klein also went the full 90 for the Bruins recording six saves.
PLU owned a 16-5 shot advantage, aided by an impressive 8-1 shots on target, while also racking up an 8-0 lead in corner kicks.
The Lutes are back in action tomorrow at noon as they wrap up the weekend trip against Linfield College in McMinnville, OR.
