HILLSBORO, Ore. — Mia Speir continues to be a roadblock for opposing offenses with the Pacific Lutheran University goalkeeper earning Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
The Spokane, Washington native made 11 saves over the weekend at East Field, helping the Lutes go 1-0-1 against a pair of tough opponents. The junior turned away four shots in a 2-0 draw against Wheaton College on Thursday before weathering 17 shots and making seven saves in a 1-1 draw against Azusa Pacific University, a team that was in the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 last fall.
Speir has played all 360 minutes in goal this season for the Lutes, collecting shutouts in two of the four games.
The nine-time defending NWC Champion Lutes (2-1-1) open conference play at home on Saturday with Pacific University coming to East Field. Kickoff is set for 2:45 p.m.
