Ashlee Gormley corralled a bouncing ball in the 95
th minute off of a
Alyssa Carter corner kick and put it past the home goalie to move the Lutes to a perfect 9-0 record in Northwest Conference action.
"We had a lot of good chances and it just didn't happen," said PLU Head Coach
Seth Spidahl. "The team could've easily gotten frustrated, but we hung it with, were resilient and showed good character. I'm really proud of the leadership that our captains showed."
Coming off the bench on Saturday, Gormley, who had just one other goal this season, produced the game-winner for the Lutes. Ranked fourth in the West Region by the United Soccer Coaches, the victory in Spokane was the 10
th straight win for PLU and kept the Lutes perfect in NWC play. It is the first double-digit winning streak for PLU since 1992.
The shutout was the third consecutive for PLU and its 10
th of the season. The Lutes have outscored their conference foes by an incredible 21-1 margin.
The visitors were in control for much of the game, holding a 20-8 edge in shots, 8-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Cassidy Crosswhite needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout.
Leah Magee had six total shots on the day, while
Meghan Michels had four. Both players also placed two balls on net.
PLU (11-1-1, 9-0-0 NWC) will remain on the road tomorrow when they take on Whitman College at 12:00 p.m.
