TACOMA, Wash. – With a 2-0 victory over Lewis and Clark College on Saturday afternoon at East Field, the Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team stretched its winning streak to 12 matches, which ties the school record.
Freshman
Meghan Michels provided the fireworks for PLU on a cool and cloudy day on the pitch. Michels produced a goal in each half. In the first, she received a beautiful pass from
Brianna Hunting and fired a strike into the upper right corner. The freshman intercepted a pass in the 82
nd minute, dribbled past a pair of Pioneer defenders and beat the Lewis and Clark keeper to put the game out of reach.
The PLU defense was outstanding once again in the victory, limiting the visitors to just five total shots and just two on goal.
Cassidy Crosswhite needed to make just two first half saves to earn the shutout. It was the fifth shutout in a row for the Lutes and the 12
th of the season. PLU increased its goal margin against NWC opponents to an impressive 25-1.
With five games remaining in the conference race, the Lutes remain five points ahead of second-place University of Puget Sound.
PLU (13-1-1, 11-0-0 NWC) previously won 12 games in a season in 1987, 1988 and 1992, but failed to reach 13 on each occasion. The Lutes will go for the school record tomorrow when they host Pacific University at 12:00 p.m.
