TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer came into today's match sitting atop the Northwest Conference standings and riding a seven-match winning streak, and it will finish the day with a five-point advantage and an eight-game streak after a 1-0 victory over archrival University of Puget Sound.
It was a matchup of two undefeated teams in the NWC for Wednesday's matinee. The Loggers came into the game at 5-0-1, while the Lutes entered at 6-0.
Senior
Leah Magee and a suffocating Lute defense insured that the Lutes would head home with a perfect 7-0 conference mark. Magee scored the game's only goal in the 17
th minute, when she dribbled around a number of Logger defenders and punched the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. It was Magee's team and conference-leading seventh goal of the season.
There were few chances for either team on Wednesday as both clubs were limited to five total shots, only three of which went on goal for the home team. Junior
Ashton Huppert made three saves to register her fourth shutout of the season and up her record to 4-0-0 on the season.
The Lutes' (9-1-1, 7-0-0) eight-match winning streak is the longest since the 2015 season. If PLU wins on Saturday at East Field against Linfield College, it will be the longest winning streak since joining NCAA Division III, and the longest since the Lutes won 12 in a row and finished second in the nation in 1992.
Saturday's kickoff is slated for Noon.
