PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team won its second Northwest Conference dual in as many days as the Lutes won eight of the 11 events contested at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday and defeated the Pioneers 116-86.
Ethan Trieu,
Seth Koivisto,
Charles Cutter and
Hayden Mortensen got things off to a good start with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.80).
Trieu continued to lead the way for PLU, winning the 100 butterfly (52.89) ahead of Cutter (55.25), who placed second. The junior also won the 100 back (55.57)
Alexander Johannessen also had a big meet for the Lutes. He anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay, teaming up with
Phillip Hecksel,
Christiaan Chandler and Cutter. Individually, the freshman won the 500 free by over 13 seconds and took the top spot in the 200 free (1:48.61).
Mortensen topped the podium in the 50 free (22.09) and had a runner-up finish in the 100 free (48.83), while Koivisto earned a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.50).
The Lutes will take next weekend off before hosting their first competition of the year on Saturday, November 16 when they welcome George Fox University to Tacoma at 1:00 p.m.
