Women's Basketball Hosts Eagles to Open Home Slate

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team opens its home slate tomorrow evening, welcoming Northwest Indian College to Olson Gymnasium in the first of five consecutive home games.

The Lutes (3-1) are coming off a split weekend in California where they suffered a 68-65 setback against the University of Redlands before bouncing back taking down Occidental College. Junior Madison Salisbury led the scoring charge against Redlands putting up 19 points. Katie Taylor was red hot against Occidental, pouring in 29 points leading the Lutes to a 86-72 victory.

"Our trip to California was a great bonding experience for our team on and off the court," said Taylor. "In the game against Redlands we discovered how important it was for our team to all be on the same page and 'in sync' when it comes to our offense and defense. Off the court we had plenty of time to just to hangout and have fun with each other which we love to do."

Taylor is a sophomore hailing from Shoreline, Washington where she attended Shoreline High School and competed in basketball, swimming, and tennis. In her freshman year for the Lutes she appeared in 23 games and averaged 11 points. She continues to show that she is a key piece to the Lute offense and talked about her role on the team.

"One of my roles on this team is to bring a strong work ethic to practice and games everyday and demonstrate our team motto "we before me".  During games, my role is to be a point contributor as well as being a strong defensive threat."

The team now shifts their focus to Tuesday night. The Eagles come to Tacoma to play their fifth game of the 2019-2020 season. Taylor shared her thoughts about the game,

"Our goals as a team for this upcoming game against Northwest Indian College is to increase our intensity and strength on defense. We have had a really successful week on working on our defense and defense of shifts and I am excited to see our team transfer our skills to the game."
