Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team hit the courts on Saturday night, dropping a 4-5 decision to Whitworth in a non-conference match.
"Tonight was a six hour match and our most competitive match of the year," said head coach
John Campbell. "We had opportunities to win at every spot, just couldn't pull out the 5
th match."
Three of PLU victories came in singles play, with
Michael Campbell,
Hampus Pers Eliasson, and
Marcus Lee all coming away with wins. Campbell rolled to a 603, 6-1 victory over Jack Bethards at No. 1 singles while Eliasson rebounded from an opening set defeat to secure the 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 win. Lee only needed two sets to capture the 6-1, 7-6 win over Ben Bethards.
In doubles, Campbell and Lee easily handled Bethards and Sean Singco, 8-2.
"Michael and Marcus controlled both their singles and double matches. Every other guy had a great competitive match. Although we didn't pull out the win, I am proud of how hard and how well everyone competed!"
The Lutes return to the court today, Sunday, at 10 a.m. to host Bellevue College at Sprinker Recreation Center.
