Men’s Tennis Tripped by Pirates in Non-Conference Match Up

Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team hit the courts on Saturday night, dropping a 4-5 decision to Whitworth in a non-conference match.

"Tonight was a six hour match and our most competitive match of the year," said head coach John Campbell.  "We had opportunities to win at every spot, just couldn't pull out the 5th match."

Three of PLU victories came in singles play, with Michael Campbell, Hampus Pers Eliasson, and Marcus Lee all coming away with wins. Campbell rolled to a 603, 6-1 victory over Jack Bethards at No. 1 singles while Eliasson rebounded from an opening set defeat to secure the 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 win. Lee only needed two sets to capture the 6-1, 7-6 win over Ben Bethards.

In doubles, Campbell and Lee easily handled Bethards and Sean Singco, 8-2.

"Michael and Marcus controlled both their singles and double matches. Every other guy had a great competitive match. Although we didn't pull out the win, I am proud of how hard and how well everyone competed!"

The Lutes return to the court today, Sunday, at 10 a.m. to host Bellevue College at Sprinker Recreation Center.
