Men's Tennis Gears Up to Host NWC Rivals

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team will be hosting Pacific University and Willamette University this weekend at the Sprinker Recreation Center for a pair of Northwest Conference dual matches. The Boxers will come to Sprinker on Saturday and the Bearcats will face off against the Lutes Sunday.

The Lutes (3-4, 0-2 NWC) are coming off of a tough weekend of conference play. Both George Fox University and Lewis & Clark College prevailed against the young Lute lineup down in Oregon to begin NWC play.

Freshman Michael Campbell has been playing in the No. 1 position all season and has been playing the sport nearly his entire life.

"I started playing tennis when I was about 5, I pretty much grew up on the tennis courts as a kid," said Campbell. "I would say my strengths is my movement and patience, I like to make my opponents really work for their points and try and take advantage of that."

As the Lutes move forward in their season, Campbell and the rest of the squad are focused on taking it one day at a time.

"I expect to have a tough match on both days, Pacific is a great school and I had a tough loss to Sean last time we played, so my goal is to turn that around this weekend. I'm hoping to compete as a team well against Pacific at home and to get another win over Willamette on Sunday."

The Lutes will lace their shoes in the afternoon on Saturday, play begins on 1 p.m. Sunday's matches will begin at 10:30 a.m.
