THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team lifted the curtain on its three-match tour of California on Sunday, suffering a 9-0 setback at the hands of host California Lutheran University.

In doubles, the Lutes' (4-6) Branson Near and Jake Kim fell 8-3 at the No. 3 position while the Michael Campbell and Marcus Lee fell short, 8-1, at the No. 1 spot.

In singles, Hampus Pers Eliasson battled at No. 3 before succumbing, 6-4, 6-1, to the Kingsmens' (8-5) Jake Haffner while Kim ended on the wrong side of a, 6-2, 6-2, scoreline at No. 5. Marcus Lee and Near were unseated by identical, 6-1, 6-2, scorelines, playing at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, respectively.

"The first match in our southern California trip was a good chance for us to play a really strong team and start to transition our games to outdoor tennis," said Head Coach John Campbell. "I was happy with our guys effort and focus. We will use this match as a springboard to getting our games up where we want to be over the next few weeks."

The Lutes will soak in the southern California sun for the next few days before returning to the courts on Wednesday with a match against Occidental College in Los Angeles.
