Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team hung tough during doubles play but was unable to keep pace with host Occidental College on Wednesday night, falling 9-0 to the hosts in the Lutes' penultimate match during spring break.
The Lutes' (4-7)
Marcus Lee and
Michael Campbell provided a stiff challenge at No. 1 doubles before ultimately falling 8-4 to the Tigers' (5-7) top tandem while
Hampus Pers Eliasson and
Justin deMattos were undone by an identical scoreline at No. 2.
In singles, Pers Eliasson hung tough in the opening set before eventually suffering a, 6-4, 6-0, setback at No. 3 while Lee was outfoxed, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4.
Jake Kim fell by a, 6-3, 6-2, scoreline at No. 5 while Campbell dropped a, 6-1, 6-3, decision at the top spot.
"We had another tough match with a very strong Occidental team," said Head Coach
John Campbell. "We competed well in the doubles and reached some of our goals in terms of effort and mental toughness. We got better today and will carry that into tomorrow."
The Lutes close out their California trip tomorrow with a 1 p.m. showdown at Chapman University.
