Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad suffered a setback on Saturday, stumbling 9-0 to nationally-ranked Whitman University.
"Whitman was very strong, one of the top teams in the nation and #1 in our conference," said Head Coach
John Campbell. "All of our players played well and competed, looking forward to our match with Whitworth tomorrow."
In doubles, the closes match was between
Jake Kim and Bronson Near at the No. 3 spot, but they ultimately fell 8-3 to the Blues' (6-10, 5-0 NWC) team of John Carter and Jack Freer.
Michael Campbell and
Marcus Lee were unable to match Ben Kirsh and Daniel Foster at the No. 1 position, dropping the set 8-2 while Justin DeMattos and
Hampus Pers Eliasson fell by an identical scoreline at No. 2.
In singles, the Lutes' (4-9, 1-5 NWC) No. 3 Eliasson put up a strong fight, but eventually fell (6-2, 6-2) to Matthew Biggi. Campbell dropped his match at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-2), while DeMattos was undone, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2.
The Lutes are back on the court tomorrow morning in Spokane taking on Whitworth University at 10 a.m.
