Men's Tennis Foiled by Wildcats, 7-2

Box Score TACOMA, Wash. - Justin deMattos made the most of Senior Day on Saturday evening, winning his final doubles match at the Sprinker Recreation Center but it wasn't enough as the Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad was outgunned 7-2 by Northwest Conference rival Linfield College.

deMattos teamed up with Hampus Pers Eliasson to collect an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles. The Lutes' top tandem of Michael Campbell and Marcus Lee were in a dogfight with the Wildcats' (6-5, 2-2 NWC) Luis Rojas and Nathan Saragoza, eventually falling by a slim 8-7 margin.

In singles, Marcus Lee came away with a 6-3, 6-0 decision in his favor playing at the No. 4 position. Campbell came up just short at No. 1 in a marathon match that last three hours and 45 minutes. When the dust settled, it was Rojas emerging with a, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, win at the top position.

Jake Kim fell, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 while Branson Near was bested, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6.

"I'm very proud of our team captain Justin deMattos on how he competes every match," said Head Coach John Campbell. "He has been a great Lute and a true leader for us and the program."

The Lutes (4-9, 1-4 NWC) are back on the court next Saturday, facing Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.
