PORTLAND, Ore. - Two goals in a four-minute stretch proved more than enough for the Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, emerging from Griswold Stadium with a 2-0 victory over Northwest Conference rival Lewis & Clark College.
Â
The two sides battled to a scoreless first half.
Meghan Michels put the Lutes (5-1-1, 3-0 NWC) on the board early in the second stanza, collecting her fourth goal in the last three games in the 55th minute in what proved to be the game winner.
Tasha Tennyson padded PLU's lead just 205 seconds later, scoring her first goal of the season off a feed from
Leah Magee. It was Magee's team-leading third helper of the 2019 campaign.
Â
PLU finished with a 12-3 edge in shots, including a commanding 8-1 advantage over the second half of play to send the Pioneers' (3-3-1, 2-1 NWC) their first defeat in conference play.
Â
Goalkeeper
Cassidy Crosswhite made one save in 90 minutes of work, earning her second clean sheet of the year and the team's fifth shutout. The Pioneers' Megan Sawyer allowed two goals in 78 minutes of action with Abby Prager handling the final 12 minutes of play.
"We were excited to play today. Lewis & Clark was 2-0 and had a great weekend last week so we were ready and knew it would be a tough game. Credit to them, they worked hard and competed," said Head Coach
Seth Spidahl. "It was 0-0 at half but we got off to a good start in the second half. It was a tough physical game so we're thankful to get the road trip off to a good start and we have to recover, refocus, and reboot to get ready for tomorrow against Pacific."

Pacific Lutheran is back on the pitch on Sunday, facing Pacific University at noon in Forest Grove, Oregon.
