TACOMA, Wash. -Â Seth Koivisto won three events but it wasn't enough on Saturday afternoon as the Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team fell 167-95 to crosstown rival University of Puget Sound to cap off the Northwest Conference dual meet season.

Koivisto won the 100-yard breaststroke by a nearly six-second margin, touching the wall in 58.88 seconds with Nick Celebrado placing third in 1:07.26. Koivisto won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:12.51 with
Jeff Lozensky finishing runner-up (2:21.73) before closing the afternoon with a razor-thin win in the 200-yard individual medley, securing the win by 0.13 seconds after stopping the clock in 2:00.46.

Hayden Mortensen won the Lutes' fourth event in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 53.95, edging Puget Sound's Calvin Werts by just two-hundredths of a second. Mortensen additionally took second billing in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 22.22.

"The men swam well and fought hard, but we couldn't match what UPS brought today," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "But I'm proud of how we swam and we're set up for a great taper and NWC Championship meet."

Logging runner-up finishes was the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.45),
Jared Toschi in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:30.24),
Ethan Trieu in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.78), 100-yard freestyle (48.75), and 100-yard butterfly (53.13), and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:26.93).

The Lutes wrapped up the dual meet season with a 5-3 record. PLU returns to the pool on Feb. 13 for day one of the 2020 NWC Championships held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington.Â
