Men's Tennis Heads Across Town to Face the Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team is heading across town to take on the University of Puget Sound on Saturday.

The Lutes (1-0) are coming off a successful weekend of play. Leading the Lutes to success last weekend was captain, Hampus Pers Eliasson whose play earned him NWC tennis player of the week honors after winning both of his doubles and singles matches against Linfield College and Willamette University.

"I think this weekend we as a team really showed what we're capable of doing. During this pre-season preparation we have given it our all every single day, not only on the courts, but in the gym, in our sport psychology group, and in our team bonding. We were both mentally and psychically prepared this weekend. A combination that we struggled with last year," said Eliasson.

Eliasson hails from Gothenburg, Sweden and is studying business at PLU. During the 2018-2019 season Eliasson primarily played No.3 singles and No. 2 doubles and racked up 11 wins at the two positions. Last weekend Eliasson teamed up with both Derek Stone and Michael Campbell to win matches for the Lutes.

"I am, as the captain, very proud of where we are today and I think I speak for the whole team when I say that we're more than ready to get this season going. On Saturday we play UPS and I am confident in our ability to keep the win streak rolling."

Saturday will be the University of Puget Sound's tennis teams first match of the season. UPS is ranked 9th in the NWC preseason poll collecting 11 points. The Lutes and Loggers will begin play at 10:30 a.m.
