TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad will put its undefeated record on the line this weekend, hosting in-state rival Whitworth University on Sunday at the Sprinker Recreation Center.
The Lutes (3-0) are coming off a dominant performance against the Community Colleges of Spokane last weekend, coming away with an 8-1 victory. The Lutes won all three doubles matches against the Sasquatch and had solid performances across the board in singles play.
Whitworth comes to Sprinker with an 0-4 record after suffering back to back losses at Division I University of Montana.
The Lutes have had multiple dominant performances so far this year and are looking to solidify themselves as one of the best teams in the Northwest Conference.
This year's squad has two seniors on the team.
Ryan Adams and
Michael Larson. Both Larson and Adams are active members in the PLU School of Business. Larson hails from Cambridge, Minnesota and Adams is from Olympia, Washington.
Juniors on the team include
Jake Kim,
Branson Near,
Hampus Pers Eliasson, and
Alex Richter. Kim, Near, and Richter all graduated high school nearby while Eliasson hails from Sweden. Eliasson also serves as team captain for the Lutes.
Michael Campbell and
Derek Stone are the teams sophomores. Stone is also a member of the PLU men's soccer team and scored two goals on the season for the Lutes. Campbell is coming off a great freshman year on the team and he primarily played at No.1 singles and doubles.
Lars Wangen is the team's lone freshman this year.
Action against will take place beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday as the Lutes look to continue their hot start to the 2020 season.
