Hall of Fame Postponed to 2021

TACOMA, Wash. - The 31st induction ceremony of the Pacific Lutheran University Athletics Hall of Fame, originally scheduled for October 9, has been postponed. The Lutes' 31st induction class which includes five individuals and two varsity four crews will be enshrined on Friday, October 1, 2021 inside Chris Knutzen Hall.
 
Outstanding Lutes to be inducted as members of the 31st induction class include volleyball standout Ingrid Finstuen (Lindeblad), football's Anthony Hicks, three-sport star Tammy Skubinna, softball's Janelle Thorson (Gunter), the 1970 & 1971 men's rowing varsity four boat, and softball coach Rick Noren.
 
Ingrid Finstuen (Lindeblad)
(Volleyball 1997-1999)

Finstuen was a two-time All-Northwest Conference selection, helping the Lutes win their first NWC Championship in 1999 and make the program's first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. Finstuen was a two-time GTE All-Academic District selection, earning Second Team honors in 1998 and First Team accolades in 1999. Finstuen helped the Lutes win 45 games over her three-year career on the court for PLU.

Anthony Hicks
(Football 1998-1999)

Hicks ranks fourth all-time in career rushing yards (2,536) and fifth in scoring (228). A Second Team All-American in 1999, Hicks led the Lutes to their fourth national title, winning five road games to win the NCAA Division III Championship. His historic 1999 season included single season record for rushing yards (1,633), points (162), and touchdowns (27). Hicks helped the Lutes compile a 21-3 record in his two seasons on campus, winning the Northwest Conference title in 1998.

Tammy Skubinna
(Basketball, Field Hockey, and Tennis 1970-1974)

A three-sport athlete, Skubinna suited up for the Lutes year round in the sports of field hockey, basketball, and tennis. As a first-year, Skubinna helped the field hockey team finish with an 8-1-1 record, was part of the hoops team that finished second at the conference tournament, and guided the tennis team to a perfect 7-0 record. Skubinna would go on to become a captain and leading scorer for the hoops team, helping PLU rack up 31 wins across the three sports as a senior en route to winning the George Fisher Scholar-Athlete Award.

Janelle Thorson (Gunter)
(Softball 1994-1997)

Thorson a two-time All-American for the Lutes, guiding the Lutes to four NCIC Championships and three NAIA Tournament appearances. Thorson was the NCIC Player of the Year in 1996 and 1997 and set single season records for wins, strikeouts, complete games, and innings pitched. Thorson helped PLU win 132 games over her four-year career, finishing fifth at the 1996 NAIA Championships and third at the 1997 NAIA Championships.

1970-1971 Men's Rowing V4+
The Lutes' V4+ in 1970 and 1971 made national headlines for its exploits on the water, catching the attention of the New York Times after a big performance at the IRA Championships. Self-coached, the 1970 varsity four won a gold medal at the Western Sprints, defeating heavyweights Washington, California, and Oregon State. The crew would go on to finish third at the IRA Championships, defeating Ivy League juggernauts Harvard, Columbia, and Princeton. The following season, the Lutes' V4+ was undefeated before getting edged by Washington at the Western Sprints. The Lutes once again qualified for the IRA Championships but were unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts.

Rick Noren
(Softball Coach 1995-2008)

The winningest coach in program history, Noren racked up an impressive 404-145-1 record during his tenure at PLU, including a 240-69 mark in Northwest Conference play. Noren's tenure saw the Lutes hoist eight NWC titles and make seven national tournament appearances. The Lutes finished second or higher every season from 1995 to 2004, including five straight league titles from 1999 to 2003. Noren coached the Lutes to three undefeated NWC seasons, a third-place finish at the 1997 NAIA Championships, and an NCAA West Region title and fourth place finish at the 2002 NCAA Division III Championships.
