SPOKANE, Wash. - Â Â The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team shut out their ninth opponent of the season and junior defender
Keila Kruse scored her first career goal as the Lutes cruised to a 2-0 victory over Whitworth University.
Â
"I'm really happy with how our team played today," said PLU Head Coach
Seth Spidahl. "I thought it was one of our better performances over here during my time. It's always a tough place to play, but I thought the team put forth a very mature and disciplined performance."
Â
It was the second time this year that PLU beat Whitworth 2-0 after the Lutes blanked the Pirates back on September 18 in Tacoma. The visitors didn't waste much time getting on the scoreboard when
Sawyer Anderson hit a banger in the 20
th minute. Kruse followed her lead 15 minutes later when she flicked a
Keila Kruse pass into the left corner of the goal.Â
Â
"It was a great first goal by
Sawyer Anderson," said Spidahl. "That's two goals in two games for her so she's really becoming the player we know she can be.Â
Keila Kruse continues to get better and improve. She scored her first career goal. It's great to see new players impact the game.Â
Â
Callie Rose picked up the shutout after the Lute defense did not allow a shot on goal in the 90-minute affair. The Pirates managed just five shots for the match, while PLU registered 14 attempts and placed nine on net.Â
Â
PLU (12-1, 8-1 NWC) remains on the road tomorrow when they travel to Walla Walla to play Whitman College. Earlier this season, the Lutes shutout the Blues 3-0. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
