Women’s Basketball Stopped by Skylights

TACOMA, Wash. – Sophomore forward Ava Edmonds scored a career-high 21 points, but the Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team was unable to capitalize and was beaten by Montana State University Northern 75-61 inside Olson Gymnasium.

"We showed growth as a team tonight," said PLU Head Coach GC Hillburn.  "We know this season is a marathon and not a sprint.  Our squad is going to stay focused on the process of reaching our full potential."

PLU (0-2) led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, but the hosts managed only 10 points in the second quarter and the Skylights took a four-point lead into the locker room.  MSU Northern lit up the nets  in the third quarter, scoring 26 points and led by as many as 17 on a pair of occasions.  The Lutes cut the lead to just 10 in the fourth, but were unable to get within single digits of the Skylights.

Edmonds and freshman point guard Josie Napoli led the Lute attack offensively.  Edmonds scored 21 on 8-of-13 shooting and had six rebounds and three steals.  Napoli scored 19 and made a trio of three-pointers on the night.  Mady Simmelink led the team with five assists and Katy Cook had four steals and six rebounds.

PLU's homestand continues on Friday when they host Northwest Indian College on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
