Women's Basketball Pummels Eagles 93-20

TACOMA, Wash. - All nine Lutes that saw the floor scored as the Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team routed Northwest Indian College 93-20 on Friday night to cap of the program's season opening homestand inside Olson Gymnasium. 

The visiting Eagles (0-5) scored the game's opening basket and drained a three with 6:33 remaining in the first quarter to seize and early 7-6 lead. The tide turned the following possession with Josie Napoli draining a three of her own, giving the Lutes (1-2) the lead for good and kicking off a 50-4 to close the half. That included keeping Northwest Indian off the scoreboard the entire second quarter, basking in a 56-11 lead at the halftime intermission.

The Lute defense was equally tenacious in the second half, limiting Northwest Indian to just nine points in the final two quarters. 

Stacie Spahr led all scorers with 20 points, draining nine of her 12 attempts from the floor while also grabbing nine rebounds. Jaida Wood dropped 15 points and eight rebounds  while Josie Napoli had 13 points, five assists, and three steals. Mady Simmelink scored a dozen points with five boards and five assists while Kasidy Javernick ended the night with 11 points. Arna Amundadottir led the Lutes on the glass with 10 rebounds while adding eight points on the offensive end.

PLU forced 22 NWIC turnovers on the night and limited the Eagles to shooting just 5.9 percent (one-for-17) from three-point range.
The Lutes are back in action on Tuesday night, facing Saint Martin's University in an exhibition game in Lacey, Washington.
