MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Malia Wisham and
Jessica Ordaz each won three events, ensuring the streak continues as the Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team downed host Linfield University 109-96 on Friday evening for the Lutes' 22nd consecutive dual meet win.
"The women faced a much tougher challenge than we have in a long time," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "After getting hit in the mouth a couple times, they got up and did their thing. We put the meet away late with a string of great swims, showing some serious competitive toughness."
Ordaz,
Annika Eisele,
Isabella Valles, and
Bailey Hamilton set the tone in the opening race of the Northwest Conference dual meet, winning the 200-yard medley relay in one minute, 50.52 seconds.
Wisham and Hamilton went one-two in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking times of 1:57.41 and 2:03.20, respectively.
Ordaz picked up her second win of the night in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 2:13.24 with
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt placing third in 2:20.47. Ordaz would complete the trifecta in the 100-yard butterfly, besting the field in 58.70.
Hamilton won the 100-yard freestyle in 55.93 with
Sidney Chan-Orcutt taking second billing in 56.74.
Eisele captured the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.17 before Wisham claimed her second individual win, topping the charts in the 500-yard freestyle with a winning time of 5:16.69. Wisham later won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.48 to cap off the night.
"This team has responded to getting back to 'normal' so well and they are a ton of fun. I love this group."
The Lutes put their streak back on the line tomorrow at 11 a.m., facing Lewis & Clark College.
